History
In April of 2004, a diverse group of young people, between 21 and 40, met to explore the creation of an organization that would help to elevate the level of political leadership in Memphis. The group recognized that there was a lack of input from Memphians in their age range on policy issues, and an overall deficiency in the level and amount of imformation supplied to residents.
This group later decided that in order for Memphis to move forward and retain and attract residents, there had to be more accountable and servant leader-focused elected officials. The initial meetings encouraged them to continue with creating a political action committee called New Path that would begin to address these issues from a different perspective. During this process they learned of an associate who planned to run for the Memphis City School Board. Although they were a group of political newcomers, founding members decided to take on this campaign as there first foray into the political arena. A political battle for the seat ensued against a 17 year incumbent, including an additional run-off campaign, but in the end they were victorious. This marked the introduction of the group to the public, and has set the tone for a successful future.
